Dont block your own drains
Recently we were called out to a property in St Ives, it was on the face of it a fairly standard job, blocked drain causing sewage overflow in the garden.
We arrived, the owners of the property explained the problem and then left us to it while they popped out to the shops. The normal procedure in such a case is to find the inspection chamber (manhole) down the line from the overflowing area and use high pressure water jetting to clear obstructions in the drain, allowing waste to flow correctly. On this occasion we identified that the drain followed an L shaped pattern but could not find the inspection chamber manhole cover where we expected it to be. We were just about to go to plan B when the owner arrived home, we explained that we were looking for a manhole cover in the garden but couldnt find it. The owner knew exactly why we couldn’t find it, it had recently been removed and replaced with a sunken water feature complete with Pea gravel!
Once the Pea gravel had been cleared from the manhole the problem was resolved.

The buyer of our house appointed you directly and you contacted me to arrange a convenient time. I know I was a little abrupt –it’s just that the fear of God had been put into me! Drains are something we do not see and do not access until something goes wrong. As a homeowner I was very concerned that any repairs required can be lengthy and costly and might indeed prevent the sale of my house.
You immediately put my mind at rest explaining that a drainage survey was commonplace and often requested by surveyors to reassure their buyers.You explained the disruption to me would be kept at a minimum and the likelihood of anything “nasty” being found was quite rare.
You duly arrived at my home on 15th November with a calming and professional approach and immediately put my mind at rest. You once again took the time to reassure me and explain the procedure. As you also needed to gain access through my neighbour’s property, you took the time to explain it to him as well-not an easy task at 8am!!
The survey took place without a hitch; you showed my husband the footage on screen as the camera went through the drain. If,however, you had found something needing remedial work, I would have been more than confident in your ability and honesty to proceed with any work.
I was so impressed with the service that we received from you, particularly as we were not the paying customer that Phil and I asked you to conduct a similar survey on the property we were purchasing.
You gave a fixed price with no hidden cost. When I contacted one of your competitors their charges were more than double yours.
I would have no hesitation in recommending you and will certainly, if the need arises, use you again .
